School History

Scoil Naomh Fionán first opened its doors in September 1991. It replaced three existing schools in the Drung end of the parish of Iskaheen/Upper Moville. The schools involved in the amalgamation were Drung NS (1903) Clunelly NS (1908) and St Colm’s NS Clar (1963).

When the school opened in 1991 the staff comprised eight teachers with a total of 207 children on the roll. Scoil Naomh Fionán has a strong history of sporting achievements and was awarded its second Active Schools flag in January 2014.

To date the school has been awarded seven Green Flags and is in the process of renewing the current flag. Today there are 208 children at the school and the number of staff has increased to 11.

The principal is Dr Patrick Patton.
